What I Do at the Counseling Center Heading link
As the UIC Counseling Center Psychiatrist, I:
- discuss diagnostic impressions with all patients while having a sensitive and diverse mindset regarding individual needs
- order labs when necessary
- recommend medications, if appropriate
- discuss risks, benefits, and alternative methods of treatment which will accommodate each patient and their needs
- enact an encompassing and integrative effort to make sure the patient fully understands their available options
- recommend lifestyle modifications to achieve optimal health, if appropriate
- work as a team with the patient’s therapist
- possibly communicate with other healthcare or treatment providers to better establish a treatment plan tailored to the patient’s needs (with the patient’s consent)
