Coping with the Loss of Tushar Sharma

Coping with the Loss of Tushar Sharma Heading link

The Counseling Center Staff joins our community in mourning the tragic death of UIC graduate student Tushar Sharma. Please know that you are not alone to bear this loss and your feelings about it – we encourage you to seek support from trusted others, including mental health professionals, and allow yourself to be cared for as you process his sudden death and circumstances.

We hope you will be mindful of how Tushar’s sudden and tragic death may impact your well-being. It is not unusual to feel a range of emotions in response to loss, from numbness, to anger, to confusion, to intense sadness; these do not always occur in a linear way and can take time to work through. You may also be having concerns about your own safety. As you become aware of these feelings and concerns, we encourage you to be mindful and caring of your own well-being. We believe that doing so will not only support your mental health but will also honor Tushar’s life.

We welcome students to contact us at the Counseling Center to discuss the impact of this sudden loss and to learn more about other available resources on and off campus; you can also find resources for grief and loss on our website (here and here) and are welcome to access our After-Hours Crisis counselor by calling the Counseling Center (312-996-3490) outside of our business hours.

In sympathy,

The UIC Counseling Center Staff
