At the Counseling Center, we believe that mental health resources should be widely available. We aim to create a campus culture that prioritizes students’ mental health and wellbeing. Our outreach services also allow us to connect with students who may need mental health resources besides traditional group or individual therapy.

Many of our usual procedures have changed since transitioning to online services due to COVID-19. We are frequently reassessing our procedures to ensure our services are as safe and accessible as possible, and for Fall 2022, all outreach programming provided by the Counseling Center will be conducted virtually. The Counseling Center provides presentations and workshops that help participants develop knowledge and skills to improve their mental health and support others. Throughout the year, we provide a number of programs, often in collaboration with other UIC offices, classes, student organizations, and faculty or staff groups. Our customized programs can include activities individually-tailored to the needs of your particular group. This program provides a brief introduction to the Counseling Center, including the types of services we provide, how to set up an appointment, and frequently asked questions.

This program helps participants understand what anxiety is and what causes it, learn how to recognize it in yourself and others, and implement healthy coping strategies to manage anxiety.

This program helps participants understand different types of stress, learn how to recognize it in yourself and others, and implement healthy coping strategies to manage stress.

This program helps participants learn basic mindfulness strategies to get in touch with sensory experiences and become more grounded in the present. You may also be interested in our ongoing Mindful Way Workshops.

This program helps participants learn the importance of self-compassion as well as basic strategies for practicing self-compassion. You may also be interested in our ongoing Self-Compassion Workshops.

This program helps participants learn how to recognize signs of psychological distress, as well as when and how to refer students in distress to the Counseling Center and other mental health resources.

This program helps participants learn characteristics of healthy and unhealthy romantic and sexual relationships, and develop skills to communicate effectively.
